Opportunities to Serve in the Community

Bethel PADS Team

Bethel’s PADS Team hosts and helps out at PADS a few times a year.  The PADS facility is located at the First Congregational Church of Downers Grove – 1047 Curtiss St, across from the Public Library.  Contact Sandy Smith at sandylms01@yahoo.com to be placed on a team and for PADS dates.  Here’s some of what we do as a PADS Team :

Provide food for dinner and breakfast – cook, serve, and clean up from meals.  Make sack lunches at night to send with people the next day.  Set up bedding and clothes.  Provide overnight “watch” staff.  Prepare hygiene kits.
Contact Jo Gaudette at bethelmissjo@gmail.com to join Sunday School kids in collecting soap, toothpaste, and toothbrushes throughout the school year to pack into hygiene kits each March for PADS families.

Bethel’s FMSC Team
Three times each year (usually once during spring break, one summer night and then again before Thanksgiving), a team from Bethel invites friends + families to join us in packing food at Feed My Starving Children in Aurora or Schaumburg so that we can serve our neighbors together.

Contact Raechel Pfotenhauer at raechelpfotenhauer@sbcglobal.net to register for an FMSC team.

Summer Time School Supplies Drive
Each summer, during VBS, Bethel kicks off its’ school supply drive and invites VBS kids and families to be a part of it!  We provide school supplies for families in need from Manning and Miller Elementary School, and each year support 20 children.  Contact Diana Mack at  dianam167@sbcglobal.net to contribute towards Bethel’s School Supplies Drive.

Food Pantry
All year long, the Bethel family collects food pantry items and delivers them to the People’s Resource Center in Westmont and Immanuel Downers Grove’s food pantry.  Contact Birdie Sarkauskas at rsarkauskas@comcast.net to be involved in collecting and delivering food pantry.
Bethel’s Sunday School kids bring specific food pantry items during these months:
March – Can of Soup
April – Box of Cereal
May – Jar of Peanut Butter

ASP Mission Teams
Bethel sends Adult and Youth Mission Teams to Appalachia to bless families by making their homes warmer, safer and drier.  We have been deeply blessed by working with Appalachia Service Project – check them out at www.asphome.org.   Contact Sharie Schwieger at schwiegs2@att.net for adult teams and Raechel Pfotenhauer at raechelpfotenhauer@sbcglobal.net for youth teams.
